Setting up your own Router in your Dorm Room is fairly simple.  Here is the steps and  information you’ll need from us:

  1. Connect an Ethernet (network) cable from the Ethernet (network) port in your dorm room.  The Ethernet port should be clearly labeled.
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the appropriate port on your Router.  It is most often marked as a yellow port, or it may say “Internet”.  Do NOT connect it to any ports marked with a number (1,2,3,4,etc.).  Ports marked with a number are for connecting your computers, game consoles, and other Internet devices to.
  3. Follow the instructions that came with your Router to continue the setup.  Instructions vary from brand to brand.
  4. When your Router asks whether your Internet connection is PPPOE, PPPOA, DHCP, or STATIC, choose DHCP.  All settings will be automatically (or dynamically) assigned by your provider, which is Park University.

If you have a power light on the router, but the router says it cannot find a DHCP server or the Internet, submit a Service Ticket so we can trouble shoot the problem.

Park University CANNOT assign static IP addresses to Dorms.

Please make sure you configure your personal router with WPA2 security for its WiFi.  Also, make sure you change the wireless password from its default to something that only you will use.
