This article will show you how to play a DVD in most classrooms and on most computers. Park University uses Windows Media Players or VLC (VideoLAN Client/Media Player) as their main programs for playing media on a computer.

VLC should be your main go to program since VLC recognized virtually any video format standard and can ready basically any DVD along with giving you additional options that aren't available in Windows Media Player.

Step 1: Launch VLC -  Looks like a caution cone on your desktop. Or you can search for it by clicking the windows Start icon in the bottom left hand corner and start typing VLC. It will look like below.

Step 2: Insert DVD into the DVD tray on the computer (note: some computers may only have a CD tray and wont play DVDs. After VLC is launched, go to Media located at the top left corner of the window. Then select ' Open Disk...'. This will open a Disc Selection menu.

You may need to change title from 0 to 1 or 2 (Title representing a section of the DVD, for example 0 can be Menu and 1 can be the actual start of the movie or video.) It varies from DVD to DVD so you will need to experiment.

It should be as easy as that. If you run into any issues then please call the IT Help Desk and we can assist you. Help Desk #: (800) 927-3024 or (816) 584-6768
